Wizard's First Rule - Terry Goodkind

“I dislike riddles; they leave too much room for misinterpretation. If you want to tell me something, then tell me.”

Ohhh, I'm loving this "no unnecessary bullshit" policy. Right after they talk about the secrets everyone is keeping from everyone:

“Everyone has secrets, my friend, and has a right to keep them when there is need.”
Her smile widened. “That be true, Richard Cypher.”

"Where there is need" being the operative bit. The whole "I'm mysterious so I won't tell you jack" thing was a was a big part on why I dropped The Wheel of Time series. It wasn't about necessity, but control. Everyone had this pathological need to hoard what they knew, even if it hindered their aims, in order to control or manipulate everyone else. It got old SO fast.
